Ahmed Wafiuddin Shamsuri, the special officer of Bentong MP Young Syefura Othman, has taken a crucial step by filing a report against Jengka assemblyman Shahril Azman Abd Halim.
The accusation revolves around Shahril's alleged manipulation of race, religion, and royalty (3R) sentiments through his TikTok account. The report was lodged at the Manchis police station. According to Wafiuddin, Shahril made statements that directly impacted the rights of Bumiputeras and even mentioned the names of Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and DAP in his allegations.
Wafiuddin expressed concern over the nature of the content, stating that it constitutes malicious slander and intentionally fuels divisive 3R sentiments that can be dangerous, disturbing community peace, and causing annoyance. He conveyed his concerns through a WhatsApp text message sent to Bernama. The TikTok video in question also depicted Shahril, a member of PAS, actively campaigning in Felda Sungai Kemahal, which falls within the Pelangai state constituency.
It is important to note that this campaigning activity occurred prior to the nomination day for the impending by-election in the area. The state seat became vacant after the tragic demise of Johari Harun, aged 53, in a plane crash in Elmina, Shah Alam, on August 17, compelling the need for a by-election. Marking the upcoming electoral process, the Election Commission has scheduled October 7 as the polling day, while nominations are set for September 23, and early voting will take place on October 3.
This incident stresses the significance of responsible and constructive political discourse. It is crucial for discussion and speeches to focus on fostering understanding, unity, and serving the best interests of the community. Divisive issues such as race, religion, and royalty can have detrimental consequences, hampering social harmony.
It is expected that the authorities conduct a thorough investigation into the allegations raised against Shahril to ensure justice and fairness prevail. Promoting inclusivity, tolerance, and respect should be the cornerstone of political engagement, cultivating a society that appreciates diversity and works collectively for the greater good of all its members. These principles will pave the way toward a harmonious and prosperous future.
