Kota Kinabalu: Police have identified infamous Facebook user “Rowen Pejuang” who stirred anger among Sabah’s Muslim community for posting an Islamophobic statement on Monday.
Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Jauteh Dikun advised the man to cooperate and turn himself in at the nearest police station to aid investigations.
“The suspect was apparently dissatisfied with previous statements issued by certain groups leading to social media bickering.
“What went viral was just one of the responses. There were a few screenshots used to fuel other issues.
“The public are reminded to stop politicising defamation and the 3R (religion, royalty, race) issues which clearly make things worse.
“Sabahans need to obey the law and maintain harmony in the community even when online,” he told a press conference after officiating the 2023 Sabah Police Cadet Corps Curriculum Camp in Papar, Friday.
Jauteh advised individuals to lodge police reports when met with defamatory or 3R related statements so that investigation and appropriate action can be taken.
Meanwhile, Briged Negaraku Negeri Sabah (BNNS) Chairman Nurul Fadzilah Noordin said punishment is necessary for online religious discrimination as simply apologising isn’t a lesson enough in thwarting others.
Nurul, 36, said this after lodging a police report at the Kota Kinabalu station here, Friday, against a few Facebook profile owners.
Ten Sabah NGOs have lodged similar police reports this week.
