4.2 Magnitude Earthquake Hits Southern California, 2nd Earthquake There in 2024

A few days into 2024, and disasters have struck many, many places in the world. While flood victims in some parts of Malaysia are still struggling with the disaster, residents in Japan also had to suffer the consequences of the earthquake a few days back.

On Friday morning (January 5), a 4.2 magnitude earthquake hit Southern California, USA. According to a statement on X by the Los Angeles Fire Department, no injuries or deaths were reported, nor were damages to buildings and infrastructure.

A report by NBC Los Angeles said that widespread shaking was centered in the San Bernardino County community of Lytle Creek, located in the San Gabriel Mountains about 60 miles northeast of downtown Los Angeles. The earthquake initially started at magnitude 4.6 but later dropped down to 4.2.

Other areas also felt the tremors, including Long Beach, Carson, parts of the San Fernando Valley, Riverside, San Bernardino, and portions of Orange County. The shaking was felt around 10:50 am.

In the meantime, it is also reported that this is the 2nd earthquake to hit Southern California since the start of the new year. On Monday (January 1), a 4.1 magnitude earthquake occurred near the coast.
