The pickup truck driver who made headlines for tailgating and threatening another motorist on the North Klang Straits Bypass has told police he was in a hurry to get to his mother’s house after she had a fall.

According to Klang Utara police chief ACP Vijaya Rao Samachulu, the 29-year-old man showed up at the police station around 10 pm last night with his lawyer to file a report.

He was arrested early this morning and taken for a urine test, which came back clean. He was released on police bail around 3 am.

The man claimed he was trying to rush his mother to the hospital when the incident happened.

Police have now reclassified the case under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless and dangerous driving. If convicted, he could face up to five years in jail and a fine between RM5,000 and RM15,000.

The incident, which happened around 6:15 pm on Thursday, involved a 4WD sideswiping a Perodua Myvi. In a video that’s been widely shared online, the pickup driver is seen punching the Myvi’s window and acting aggressively, even with a police officer present.

Fortunately, the Myvi driver wasn’t hurt and has decided not to pursue the case, saying he just wants to settle the matter through an insurance claim. The police were previously searching for the man.

Stay tuned for more updates.
