Kota Kinabalu: A total of 4,576 students have been offered places to pursue studies at Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) for the 2022/2023 academic session and expected to enrol on Monday and today (Tuesday), said UMS Vice-Chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Kasim Mansor.

He said the figure consisted of 2,770 students from Sabah, the peninsula (1,144), Sarawak (582) and Labuan (57) as well as 23 international students from Bangladesh, Brunei, China, Hong Kong, Japan and Thailand.

“It also includes 2,480 offers for B40 students under UMS special track programme, eight Persons with Disability, five sports athletes and eight Orang Asli,” he said in a statement after inspecting the student registration process at the UMS Campus, here, Monday.

Kasim said the university was also among the pioneer universities involved in the “Siswa Sulung Keluarga Malaysia” (Sulung), a development programme initiated by the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE).

He said students from the B40 group selected under the programme would be provided scholarships, monthly allowance, hostel accommodation and mentoring.

“The programme facilitates those who are the first individuals in their family to enrol in a university so that their success can motivate the family and the local community. UMS has offered places to ten students through this programme,” he added.
