Four people, including three members of the same family, were killed after 11 vehicles were involved in a pile-up on the East Coast Expressway 1 (LPT1) near Temerloh, Pahang, last night.

The crash happened at around 10pm at KM110.4 of LPT1, Kuantan-bound, near the Temerloh toll plaza exit.

11 vehicles involved

According to the Pahang Fire and Rescue Department, the crash involved two Proton Sagas, two Perodua Myvis, a Toyota Alphard, an express bus, a Proton S70, a tanker lorry, a Honda CR-V, a Toyota Hilux and a Perodua Aruz.

Firefighters were alerted to the accident at 10.44pm, with the first responders arriving at around 11.24pm.

4 trapped and killed

Pahang Fire and Rescue Department operations division assistant director Mohd Salahuddin Isa said four victims were found trapped inside their vehicles.

Three of them, the male driver, a female passenger and a child in a Proton S70, were pronounced dead at the scene. A man travelling in a Honda CR-V was also killed.

Firefighters reportedly took more than an hour to extricate the victims from the wreckage.

4 others injured

Four other people were injured in the crash, including two men who were trapped in the tanker lorry and CR-V, a woman in the Hilux and a man in one of the Proton Sagas. They were taken to Sultan Ahmad Shah Hospital for treatment.

Meanwhile, the 30 passengers on the express bus escaped unharmed.

The four bodies were also taken to the same hospital for post-mortem examinations.

Police are investigating the cause of the crash, while the identities of the deceased have yet to be confirmed.
