Kota Kinabalu: Four additional tube wells are set to be completed this week to alleviate the water crisis on Sebatik Island in Tawau.
State Public Works Minister Datuk Shahelmey Yahya said out of all the dams in the State, the water reservoir on Sebatik Island had dried up.
“The water supply for Sebatik Island relies on the 10 existing tube wells.
“Four additional tube wells are scheduled to be completed by this week to provide untreated water,” he said, following the circulation of information about dams’ water supply capacity state-wide.

Apart from Sebatik, the Timbangan Dam in Semporna also indicates that the reserve could last for three days.
“However, as you could read from the brief report, Semporna should have adequate supply for now as their raw water could be sourced from Sungai Kalumpang.
“We have also requested cloud seeding to be conducted once suitable cloud formations occur, as advised by the Meteorological Department.”
According to the report, as of Sunday, the dam in Kudat has a reserve of 271 days; Sandakan 95 days; Penampang 86 days; Tamparuli 64 days; and Lahad Datu 39 days.
