
LAHAD DATU: Four unmarried Muslim couples, including a widow in her 20s, were detained during an “Ops Valentine” carried out by the Sabah Islamic Religious Affairs Department (Jheains) on Feb 14.
The five-hour operation, which began at 10pm, was conducted by 12 Jheains and police personnel. They inspected four budget hotels in town.
AdvertisementJheains Lahad Datu Administration Officer Mardi Ariffin said the operation which ended at 3am aimed to ensure that the community is not involved in acts of adultery (Zina).
“They were detained under Section 84 of the Sabah Syariah Criminal Offence Enactment for committing close proximity and indecent behaviour (Khalwat).

All those detained were taken to Lahad Datu Police Headquarters for further action.
