FOUR women in a saloon car had a miraculous escape after their vehicle was crushed by a large tree during a severe storm in Miri city today.
The women were driving along a busy street in front of the Mercure Hotel at around midday when strong winds uprooted a tree by the roadside, causing it to fall onto their car.
The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department reported that rescue teams from the Miri Central Station responded promptly to the emergency.
“Our station was alerted at 12:10pm today about the incident. Our rescue team, equipped with tree-cutting tools, was deployed to the site.
“All four women managed to exit the car and were found to be unharmed,” said the department in a press statement.
The tree trunk had landed on the car roof after being uprooted by the violent winds.
