43 illegal water connections cut in Sandakan

SANDAKAN: The State Water Department cut 43 illegal water pipe connections during a joint operation at two squatter settlements near Batu 3 on Tuesday.

Two water pumps were seized and one person arrested, with the case being investigated under Section 49(b) of the Sabah Water Supply Enactment 2003.

The operation, led by the department's Enforcement and Security Branch Chief Assistant Director ASP/PB Azmie Sabli, involved 89 personnel from 18 Federal and State enforcement agencies.

The department said the operation targeted illegal water connections and Non-Revenue Water (NRW) losses, while also uncovering illegal electricity connections.

Sabah Electricity cut 40 illegal power connections, while the Sandakan Municipal Council issued three compounds and seized 11 packets of suspected duty-unpaid cigarettes.
