THE three Era FM radio DJs at the center of a public uproar over a controversial video mocking a religious festival are set to have their statements recorded at Bukit Aman today.
Inspector General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain confirmed that the three DJs are among six individuals scheduled to meet with the Bukit Aman Classified Crime Investigation Unit (USJT) at 11 a.m. today.
The other three individuals involved are an Astro Audio director, a social media executive who manages the TikTok account for era.je, and the radio station's manager.
Razarudin added police had received 44 reports related to the incident so far, highlighting the intensity of the public reaction.
The case has been classified under Section 298 of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act. These sections pertain to intentionally inciting religious sentiments and misuse of network facilities, respectively.
Offenders convicted under Section 298 of the Penal Code could face up to one year in prison, a fine, or both, while those found guilty under Section 233 could be fined up to RM50,000, imprisoned for up to one year, or face both penalties.
The video, which has sparked widespread outrage, has been viewed 95,400 times and shared by 204 users to date.
In response to the controversy, Astro Audio issued a statement emphasizing that as a responsible broadcaster, it took the matter seriously and had taken immediate steps to manage the situation.
The DJs involved—Nabil Ahmad, Azad Jasmin, and Radin Amir Effendi Ahmad Aruani—have publicly apologized for their actions, acknowledging the insensitivity of their behavior.
Radin Amir Effendi, one of the DJs, admitted to making a mistake and assured the public that such an incident would not happen again.
Azad Jasmin, who was featured in the video performing dance moves that mocked religious practices, also expressed regret for his actions.
He acknowledged the mistake and emphasised that the group welcomes all criticism as an opportunity for growth and improvement.
