KOTA KINABALU: Education, Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Datuk James Ratib said Sabah will seek approval for all 45,000 laptop applications submitted to the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to support digital learning in schools statewide.
He said the laptops would be distributed to secondary, primary and pre-school institutions, assigned to schools rather than individuals, and managed through facilities such as resource rooms.
James said MCMC would also supply smart boards for classrooms, alongside teacher training in digital teaching methods, as part of efforts to modernise learning across Sabah’s 1,300 schools.
He added that 68 schools without internet access would be connected via Starlink satellite services, while schools without electricity would be equipped with solar power systems.
James said the Education Department would finalise the proposal for submission to the MCMC minister, stressing that the initiative is aimed at ensuring Sabah does not fall further behind the peninsula and Sarawak in technological and digital education development.
He made these remarks after a meeting with the State Education Department at the KPSTI office on Wednesday.
