The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) has tracked down and arrested a 48-year-old man who was seen in a viral CCTV footage slapping a 13-year-old boy at a food premise at LRT Pasar Seni in Kuala Lumpur.

The shocking incident reportedly occurred on Tuesday (24 March) at 1:35 PM, with the victim filing a police report soon after. According to Berita Harian, the victim stated that the suspect, whom he did not know, assaulted him for no apparent reason while he was at the shop counter to purchase bread.

In a follow-up report, Berita Harian noted that the suspect was apprehended by officers from the Dang Wangi Police Station near Jalan Masjid India on Friday (27 March) at approximately 3:40 PM.

Dang Wangi District Police Chief ACP Sazalee Adam stated:

“The suspect confessed to slapping the victim’s face, causing him to fall to the floor. He claimed to have become enraged when the teenager picked his nose while waiting in line next to him.

“Following the arrest, police also seized the clothing believed to have been worn by the suspect during the incident, specifically, a white shirt and a pair of black trousers.”

A remand order will be applied against the suspect

Sazalee further revealed that the suspect is unemployed and has a previous criminal record involving a narcotics case.

The police will apply for a remand order against the suspect today (28 March) to facilitate further investigations.

The Dang Wangi District Police Chief added that the case is being investigated under Section 323 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act for improper use of network facilities or network services.

Should the suspect be convicted under Section 323 of the Penal Code, he faces up to one year in prison, a fine of up to RM2,000, or both.
