Tom Heaton picked up an injury right before their previous game against Wolves.
Second choice keeper Jed Steer came off in the same game last weekend with a calf problem.
Orjan Nyland is set to deputise in goal for the Newcastle game, but Villa will be hoping one of their two first choice keepers is back soon.
For his part, Nyland is confident he can do the job.
He told reporters recently: "It's about being ready when the opportunity arises.
"They're betting on me to the extent that they want me to be there,"
"They have clear goals for me, and I think I'm a Premier League keeper."
