South Shields co-manager Graham Fenton hailed Jack Grealish's recent performances for Aston Villa in an interview with Tribal Football this week.
Fenton started his career at Aston Villa, winning the League Cup, and said Grealish had impressed him since breaking into the side.
Now managing in the Northern Premier Division, Fenton said: "I would take Jack Grealish at South Shields."
"I love watching him play, he is courageous and will accept the ball anywhere and has great composure," he added.
"That bravery stands out a mile and hopefully he gets an opportunity in the England squad."
South Shields are currently sitting top with promotion to the National League North in their sites, while Villa are just outside the Premier League relegation zone.
Grealish was given the captaincy by manager Dean Smith in March and the new level of responsibility coincided with a strong run of form.
He has continued this form into the new Premier League season and has been mentioned as a potential call up for Gareth Southgate's England squad.
According to ESPN, Grealish is also a target for Manchester United who will be looking to strengthen their squad this January.
