Simple Plan is one of my favourite band from the 90s. This pop punk group serenaded us 90s kids with hits like "I'm Just A Kid", "Perfect" and "Welcome to My Life". It was indeed an honor growing up listening to them. They didn't just wow us with their upbeat rhythms and uber-cool pop punk image, but the lyrics of their songs were so relatable to many of us that we couldn't help but sing along. It's amazing that this band still exists till today with all 5 of their original band lineup, consisting of lead vocals, Pierre Bouvier; lead guitarist, Jeff Stinco; rhythm guitar and backing vocals, Sebastien Lefebvre; bass guitar and backing vocals, David Desrosiers and Chuck Comeau, drums and percussions. Since the band is coming down to Malaysia for their "Harder Than It Looks Tour" in Southeast Asia this March (I'm definitely psyhed!), here's just a little something to pay tribute to this awesome boy band.
Whether you're just discovering this gem of a band or you're a diehard "Simple Plan Forever" fan, here are some fun facts you should know about them.
1) Since the band members grew up in Montreal, Canada, their first language is not English. It's French. French was the medium of instruction throughout their education from elementary school to college..
2) Their drummer Chuck Comeau is a tech geek. He brings two phones and an iPad with him everywhere he goes even to the washroom

3) Did you know that as a way to give back to the community, the band founded the Simple Plan Foundation in 2005 to help out young people and families who are going through tragic events like cancer and other illnesses. Their foundation also addresses teen problems like suicide, poverty and drug addiction. As of 2012, the band donated a total of $1 million to various organizations around the world that work with troubled youth.
4) The band's name was inspired by a movie by Sam Raimi released in 1998 called "A Simple Plan". They just dropped the "A". It seems their producer suggested it after just having watched the film.
5) Everyone of the band's album titles has a tongue-in-cheek sexual innuendo. As quoted by Pierre, “We like to go with a double entendre, where it can be seen as a sexual pun, but it also has a deeper meaning." For instance, their latest album "Harder Than It Looks" and a previous album titled "Still Not Getting Any". Both sound like they are referring to sex and getting laid but they really have deeper meanings. With "Harder Than It Looks", they are referring to how hard it has been for the band to stay together for this long and at the same time, stay relevant in their efforts to maintain their fan base.
So there you have it! The 5 fun facts about Simple Plan you probably didn't know about. Stay tuned to the band's concert scheduled for 8 March at Zepp KL. Ticket prices range from RM258 to RM700.
