
PETALING JAYA: Police have arrested five suspects after a man was assaulted with a parang and hockey stick while having dinner with his girlfriend in Kuching, Sarawak.
Police said the victim, in his 30s, was approached by five others and accused of owing money.
He was taken outside and beaten up with an object which looked like a hockey stick and subsequently hacked with a parang, said acting Padawan district police chief Lim Jaw Shyong.
He said the man tried to escape but was unsuccessful and suffered injuries to his body and legs. He was taken to hospital and is in a stable condition.
