- A Salmonella outbreak linked to raw oysters has infected 27 people across 12 US states, leading to five hospitalisations.
- Pennsylvania reported the highest number of cases at eight, with infections also confirmed in New York, Virginia, and nine other states since late May.
- The outbreak was traced to oysters harvested by the Little Wicomico Oyster Company in northeastern Virginia, which has voluntarily recalled products harvested between 18 September and 8 October.
- Health officials warned the oysters were distributed to restaurants and retailers across at least 16 states and Washington DC, urging consumers and businesses to dispose of them.
- Salmonella symptoms include bloody diarrhoea, severe vomiting, and high fevers, with vulnerable groups such as young children and the elderly facing greater risks.
