KOTA KINABALU: Stronger police presence in the city through scheduled foot patrol has zeroed robbery cases for the past 50 days.

Kota Kinabalu MP Datuk Chan Foong Hin said the number of stateless street kids begging around town has also declined.

"Police cannot take action on the stateless kids unless they commit a crime, but their presence is enough for them to shy away.

"Previously, a shelter house mission was spearheaded by State Community Development and People's Wellbeing Minister Datuk James Ratib.

"Because if you only provide shelter then until when will it be? The longstanding issue cannot be solved in one or two days.

"The number of stateless kids in town is not zero, but that is what we are working towards," he said.
