A massive fire tore through a vehicle service and painting workshop in Sungai Buloh on the evening of January 7, 2026, destroying 51 cars and causing extensive damage to the facility owned by a local car manufacturer. No injuries were reported, but the incident triggered a large-scale emergency response involving multiple fire stations across Selangor.

The Selangor Fire and Rescue Department received the distress call at 5.17pm and immediately mobilised firefighting teams to the scene. Personnel from the Sungai Buloh Fire and Rescue Station arrived within 16 minutes, at 5.33pm, to find flames rapidly engulfing the workshop compound and several vehicles parked inside.

As the fire intensified, additional support was dispatched from the Damansara, Rawang, Bukit Jelutong and Petaling Jaya fire stations to prevent the blaze from spreading further. In total, 27 firefighters and officers were involved in the operation, supported by five fire engines and two water tankers.

The affected structure was classified as a B-class building used for vehicle servicing and painting works, with an estimated size of about 200 by 200 square feet. The presence of vehicles, paint materials and workshop equipment contributed to the intensity of the fire, which required sustained efforts to bring under control.

Fire crews managed to contain the blaze by 6.28pm, slightly more than an hour after the first call was received. Preliminary assessments conducted at the scene confirmed that 51 vehicles were completely destroyed, with several others suffering heat-related damage. Thick smoke and intense heat made firefighting operations challenging, but crews were able to prevent the fire from spreading to neighbouring premises.

Authorities said investigations are under way to determine the cause of the fire, while the total value of losses has yet to be assessed. Fire and rescue officials indicated that a detailed forensic examination would be carried out once the site is deemed safe, including checks on electrical systems, flammable materials and workshop safety procedures.

The incident has raised concerns over fire safety standards at industrial and automotive service facilities, particularly those handling combustible substances such as paint and solvents. Officials have urged operators of similar workshops to ensure strict compliance with safety regulations, proper storage of hazardous materials and routine maintenance of electrical systems.
