A ferry bound for Langkawi was hit by strong winds yesterday, resulting it to run off course and hit a sandbank just 15 minutes after departing from the Kuala Perlis Jetty.

The mishap had left 567 passengers aboard stranded for seven hours since 2.30pm, and the ferry was only able to resume its journey later that night after being towed by a tugboat.

According to TikTok videos shared by a few passengers, they had only received food and drink aid by 8.30pm.

Despite the distress, rescue personnel reported no injuries nor casualties.
