FIFTY-seven Malaysians remain uncontactable following severe flooding in Nepal’s Rasuwa district, with efforts underway to determine their whereabouts.
The Foreign Ministry said it had received reports from family members, friends and employers about the Malaysians as of 11 pm yesterday.
Malaysia’s diplomatic representatives in the region are now working with Nepalese authorities and relevant agencies to verify the information and locate those still uncontactable.
Nepalese authorities have reported that 31 foreign nationals have been rescued so far, but Wisma Putra said it had yet to confirm whether any Malaysians were among them.
The ministry also received information that some Malaysians may have entered the affected areas through China and India.
Its diplomatic representatives are working with Nepal’s Emergency Response Team and the Nepal Tourism Board to cross-check information on Malaysians believed to be in the affected areas.
Search and rescue operations are continuing, involving police, security agencies, local authorities and residents, while families in areas at risk of further flooding are being moved to safer locations.
Access to some of the affected areas has been hampered by extensive damage to roads and disruptions to communications. Helicopters are being used extensively to support search and rescue efforts.
Those needing urgent medical attention are being flown to major hospitals in Kathmandu, while victims with less serious injuries are receiving treatment at medical facilities in affected areas.
Wisma Putra said its Operations Room in Putrajaya would remain open around the clock until further notice to coordinate information and assist Malaysians in the affected areas and their families.
Families who may have information on the missing Malaysians are urged to contact the Operations Room at +603 8887 4570 or dutyofficer@kln.gov.my.
They should provide, where available, the person’s full name, passport number, travel itinerary, last known location and contact number.
Information can also be sent to the Malaysian Embassy in Kathmandu at mwkathmandu@kln.gov.my.
The ministry urged Malaysians living in or travelling to Nepal, particularly those in or near affected areas, to remain vigilant, prioritise their safety and follow instructions from local authorities.
Malaysians are also encouraged to register with the ministry and keep their contact details updated through the e-Konsular portal. – August 28, 2026
