Steve Bruce admits injury forced Jonjo Shelvey off the ground in Sunday's 1-0 loss to Arsenal.
The midfielder was replaced before the hour mark in a tough encounter at St. James' Park.
Speaking after the game, Bruce clarified his decision.
"Jonjo was injured," Bruce said. "We don't think it's too serious, but he was restricted in his movement.
"We don't expect it to be too bad."
