Lovren is ready to leave the Reds, but has seen talks with Roma fall through in the last week.
BILD says Bayer are in the market for a new centre-half and are weighing up a late move for Lovren.
Roma and Liverpool had agreed a loan fee of 3m with a permanent option for 12m.
However, Lovren's demands of a signing-on bonus saw the move collapse.
