Liverpool are preparing to say farewell to their Melwood training ground.

The Athletic reports Liverpool legends Steven Gerrard and Jamie Carragher will captain teams next summer in the last ever match to be played at the club's Melwood training ground.

The Reds are moving into a new training facility on the academy site in Kirkby in time for the 2020-21 campaign.

Liverpool have offered the chance to play in the final game at Melwood at the 10th anniversary gala dinner for Carragher's 23 Foundation.

One supporter paid 14,000 for him and his friends to be part of Carragher's team, with Gerrard subsequently stepping in to captain the other team.

Liverpool's new training base will cost 50million, with the current Melwood site set to be sold off for housing.
