6.2-magnitude quake hits Papua New Guinea

KUALA LUMPUR – A 6.2-magnitude quake hit Papua New Guinea at 8.49am today.

According to Malaysia’s Meteorological Department, the quake does not pose any tsunami threat to Malaysia.

The tremor epicentre is at 5.3° South and 146.9° East with a depth of 217km in the Bismarck Sea.

It is also 121-km east of Madang province. Madang is nearly 500km from the capital city Port Moresby.

On February 28, a 6.5-magnitude quake with a depth of 582.6km struck the Kimbe region of Papua New Guinea, some 550km from the capital. – The Vibes, March 14, 2023
