6.4-mag earthquake rocks Papua New Guinea, no tsunami threat to Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR – A strong 6.4-magnitude earthquake was detected in New Britain Region, Papua New Guinea, at 4.56am this morning.

The Malaysian Meteorological Department said that the epicentre of the earthquake was located at 5.8 degrees south and 151 degrees east with a depth of 68km, which is 30km southeast of New Britain Island, Papua New Guinea.

“There is no tsunami threat to Malaysia,” it said in a statement. – April 15, 2024
