6 Malaysian UN Peacekeepers Injured by Israeli Drone Strike in Lebanon

On November 8, Malaysia announced that 6 members of the Malaysian Battalion (MALBATT) were injured in an explosion in Lebanon.

BERNAMA reported that the Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) said the incident happened at 1:54 PM local time (7:54 PM Malaysia time) while the MALBATT 850-12 team was heading from Beirut to Marakah camp.

The explosion hit a civilian vehicle

MAF also mentioned that the explosion hit a civilian vehicle on its way to Beirut and also damaged a bus carrying MALBATT 950-12 personnel.

As a result, 6 members of the MALBATT were injured, including 5 from the MALBATT 850-12 team, who had minor injuries, and 1 member with a suspected closed fracture to the left arm.

Additionally, 1 member from the MALBATT 850-11 team also suffered minor injuries.

“We’ll continue to monitor closely”

MAF further asserted that the member who sustained an arm injury was immediately taken to Hamood Hospital in Saida for further treatment by the MALBATT 850-11 medical officer.

“The Malaysian Armed Forces will be keeping a closer eye on the situation and will update the public when more details come in.”

They also emphasised their commitment to ensuring the safety of their personnel while on peacekeeping missions under the UN.

The first deployment of the MALBATT 850-12 team, with 220 officers and other members, began yesterday and will continue in stages until November 18 as part of their UN peacekeeping work in Lebanon.
