In a dramatic scene that unfolded during an immigration raid in Kuala Lumpur, a six-month pregnant foreign woman attempted to flee authorities by sprinting nearly 200 meters—while wearing high heels. The incident occurred on the night of April 17 at Medan Imbi, when a large-scale operation was carried out by the Immigration Department of Malaysia (JIM) along with other enforcement agencies.
The 38-year-old woman, who had been residing in Malaysia for about three months, reportedly panicked upon seeing others running from immigration officers. Despite her condition, she instinctively joined the crowd and attempted to escape. Her effort, however, was short-lived. Officers eventually caught up with her, and shortly after being detained, she fainted on the scene.
Emergency medical responders provided her with immediate assistance. When questioned, the woman explained that she did not have her passport with her at the time, as it was left at home. She claimed she ran out of fear when she saw others fleeing. She also mentioned that her husband, an engineer working in Port Klang, had recently returned to India to bring their children and mother-in-law to Malaysia.
The raid itself was part of a major crackdown on undocumented immigrants. A total of 185 officers from multiple agencies, including JIM branches from Putrajaya and Negeri Sembilan, as well as the National Registration Department (JPN), participated in the operation. The two-hour raid began at 7:30pm and targeted a known hotspot for foreign nationals.
Out of 749 individuals screened during the operation, 506 were found to be suspected of violating immigration laws. Common offences included not carrying valid identification, overstaying their visa, and possessing fake or unrecognized documents. The largest number of suspected violators were from Bangladesh (165), followed by Nepal (142), Indonesia (109), Myanmar (46), India (25), and Sri Lanka (19).
Authorities say the operation is part of an ongoing effort to enforce Malaysia’s immigration laws and ensure national security. They urged all foreign residents to keep proper documentation with them at all times and warned that similar raids will continue in other areas in the coming weeks.
