
As many as six Rajya Sabha MPs have jointly submitted a privilege notice against Leader of Opposition in the House Mallikarjun Kharge accusing his of making “derogatory, disparaging and highly disrespectful" remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The members — Brij Lal, Mithlesh Kumar, Sumitra Balmik, Shivesh Kumar, Sikander Kumar and Nagendra Ray — in their notice said that this “lowers the dignity of the Parliament and its Members".
Meanwhile, Rajya Sabha Chairman, CP Radhakrishnan has referred the notice to the Committee of Privileges for examination, investigation and report.
The Rajya Sabha members have given the notice under Rule 188 of Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in the Council of States (Rajya Sabha).
The members said that they were giving the notice against Leader of the Opposition, Mallikarjun Kharge for “alleged continual and deliberate use of grossly derogatory, disparaging and highly disrespectful remarks against the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India and thereby lowering the dignity of the Parliament and its Members".
Secretary General PC Mody said, “On consideration of the facts, the Hon’ble Chairman, Rajya Sabha has referred on June 16, 2026, the matter under Rule 203 of Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in the Council of States (Rajya Sabha) to the Committee of Privileges for examination, investigation and report".
