60-year-old woman among four arrested in connection with stabbing of uni student

A 60-YEAR-OLD woman and three men have been arrested in connection with the murder of a university student who was stabbed 61 times on Thursday night.

The victim was found near a padi field in Kampung Simah, Ketereh, Kota Bahru.

Kelantan police chief Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat said the suspects aged between 19 and 66-years-old were detained in two separate raids, reported the New Straits Times.

The raids were in Taman Murni and Kampung Belukar Luas between 4.40 pm yesterday and 2.30 am today.

"The suspects have no prior criminal records and tested negative for drugs," said Mohd Yusoff.

He said police also seized two cars, two mobile phones, clothing, a pair of slippers, four floor mats, and a knife believed to be the murder weapon.

Police would apply for a remand order against the four at the Kota Baru Magistrate's Court this morning.

A post-mortem confirmed the cause of death as multiple stab wounds to the chest.

Reports said the victim found dead with 61 stab wounds was a 19-year-old college student from Perak.

It is understood that the victim was a student at a college in Kota Bharu studying for a Diploma in Early Childhood Education.

The victim was also said to be in her third semester at the college.

The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder, which carries the death penalty or imprisonment of between 30 and 40 years and whipping upon conviction. – May 2, 2026
