60yo Ex-School Principal in T’ganu Sentenced to 107 Years in Jail for Sexual Crimes Against a 16yo Student

A 60-year-old Malaysian man has been sentenced to 107 years in jail by the Kuala Terengganu Sessions Court today after he was found guilty of 13 charges of sexual crimes, which include sexual communication, physical sexual assault and rape.

The accused, Rosli Abd Rahman, is a former school principal and was accused of committing the offences against the victim, a student who was 16 years old at the time.

As reported by Sinar Harian, the accused was sentenced to 107 years in jail by Judge Md Zul Zakiquddin Zulkifli after the defence failed to raise reasonable doubt.

According to the long charge sheet, the accused was charged with the following offences:

  • 5 counts under Section 376(2)(f) of the Penal Code for rape
  • 4 counts under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017 for physical sexual assault on a child
  • 2 counts under Section 11(11)(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017 for sexually communicating with a child
  • 1 count under Section 14(c) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017 for physical sexual assault on a child
  • 1 count under Section 14(d) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017 for physical sexual assault on a child

The Kuala Terengganu Sessions Court sentenced him to 1 year in jail for the charges under Section 11(1)(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017 and 5 years each for the charges under Section 14(a), 14(c) and 14(d) of the same Act.

Meanwhile, for each charge under Section 376(2)(f) of the Penal Code, he was sentenced to 15 years in jail.

However, the court allowed for the accused to undergo the prison sentences concurrently, meaning that he only has to spend 15 years in jail. The jail term will run from the date of conviction.

Furthermore, the court also allowed the accused a stay of execution pending an appeal, with bail set at RM40,000.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Noradila Ab Latif led the prosecution, while the accused was represented by lawyer Abdul Rahman Razak.
