A Computerised Vehicle Inspection Centre (PUSPAKOM) staff member previously filed a police report after a video of him getting slapped by a customer went viral.
In a recent update about the incident, Sinar Harian reported that the elderly suspect was slapped with a RM1,600 fine by the Magistrate’s Court.
He would have to serve 6 months in prison
Koh Soon Hua, who’s unemployed, pleaded guilty and was also told he would have to serve 6 months in prison if he didn’t pay the fine.
The prosecution was handled by Deputy Public Prosecutor Siti Aishah Latiff, while the accused was not represented by a lawyer.
The accused is facing charges under Section 323 of the Penal Code, which could mean up to 1 year in prison, a fine of up to RM20,000, or both if convicted.
The staff member suffered bruising to his ear
According to the charge sheet, the 60-year-old was accused of the act on January 16 when he took his lorry for inspection at Puspakom’s Johor Bahru branch, Taman Daya.
Earlier, it was reported that the accused slapped a PUSPAKOM staff member after being dissatisfied with his lorry failing the brake test during a routine inspection.
The incident, which was also captured by a closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera at PUSPAKOM, has since gone viral on social media.
As a result, the PUSPAKOM worker suffered bruising to his ear and filed a police report on November 18.
