According to GuangMingDaily, a 61 year old woman driving a Porsche sports car was involved in a dramatic accident after allegedly stepping on the accelerator instead of the brake, sending the vehicle crashing through the glass entrance of a cafe in Penang.

The incident reportedly happened at around 11.30am today in front of a newly opened upscale hotel along Gurney Drive, Penang.

According to the initial police report, the Chinese woman from Bukit Mertajam was driving towards Kelawei Road when she allegedly lost control of the Porsche in front of the hotel.

The vehicle reportedly accelerated unexpectedly before crashing through the cafe’s large glass doors and ending up inside the premises.

The impact was so powerful that the Porsche was described as having entered the cafe “like a cannonball”, leaving the area in chaos.

Fortunately, no injuries or fatalities were reported in the incident.

However, employees and customers inside the cafe were reportedly left terrified by the enormous impact. Witnesses described hearing a loud crash, followed by shattered glass flying across the area.

Photographs and videos of the aftermath showed the cafe in considerable disarray, with tables and chairs knocked over and the glass frontage completely destroyed.

The driver herself reportedly told police that she had accidentally stepped on the accelerator while attempting to drive towards Kelawei Road.

She also reported that the Porsche sustained extensive damage, with the front, rear, sides and windscreen affected in the collision. All four airbags reportedly deployed.

The total amount of damage has not yet been determined.

The incident quickly attracted attention because of the unusual circumstances, particularly the fact that the luxury sports car ended up inside a café rather than simply colliding with another vehicle.

While the initial account points to an alleged accelerator brake mix-up, further investigation would be required to establish exactly how the accident occurred.

For those inside the cafe, however, the cause may have mattered little in the moment.

One second, customers and staff were going about their morning as usual. The next, a Porsche had crashed through the glass and into their cafe.

Thankfully, what could have been a devastating accident ended without reported injuries….leaving behind a heavily damaged luxury car, a wrecked cafe entrance and one very frightening morning for everyone involved.
