In line with National Women’s Month, 64 aspiring women seafarers from various maritime schools took part in a special pre-employment orientation seminar for women cadets, according to the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) on Thursday.

The orientation was conducted at the DMW Central Office in Mandaluyong City and was in line with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s directive to empower women seafarers and to ensure better and equal opportunities in the maritime industry.

The women seafarers took part in the seminar, which provides guidance on onboard expectations, safety protocols, and professional responsibilities in the global maritime sector.

It also emphasized risks and challenges at sea, women leadership, and discussions on the implementation of the Magna Carta of Filipino Seafarers and reminded the seafarers against online scams, illegal recruitment, and human trafficking.

“In line with the celebration of the Women’s Month, the activity affirms DMW’s commitment to upholding better and equal opportunities for Filipina seafarers in the global maritime industry,” the agency said in a statement.
