Tension gripped Dujana village on Sunday afternoon after a 65-year-old man was shot dead in a field reportedly linked to an old enmity over a land dispute. The deceased has been identified as Vijay Kumar, a resident of Dujana village.

As per reports, Vijay along with his son Sunil had gone to the fields to irrigate the crop when four unidentified assailants arrived on two motorcycles and opened fire on him from a close range. The attackers fled immediately while Vijay in a critical condition was rushed to PGIMS in Rohtak, where he was declared brought dead.

Soon after receiving information, senior police officials reached the spot and inspected the scene. A team of the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) was also called in to collect crucial evidence. The police are examining CCTV footage from nearby areas to identify the assailants.

“Vijay was also a key witness in the murder case of his son Anil, who was shot dead some years ago in Beri town following the same land conflict. The family had been under threat and was also provided a security guard by the district police,” said the sources.

The incident has created panic in the area, with villagers demanding swift action and arrest of those involved. The killing has also left the family shattered, as it comes years after the murder of Vijay’s son.

ACP Shamsher Singh said statements of Vijay’s family members were being recorded to register an FIR into the matter. “Efforts are on to identify and nab the accused,” he added.
