PENAMPANG: The Road Transport Department (RTD) will extend the MyLesen B2 programme into its second phase, with Sabah receiving an additional 650 slots for the remainder of the year, said its director-general Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli.

Under the new phase, every state will receive an additional 650 places, he said.

Aedy said the programme, aimed at providing free Class B2 motorcycle licences to students and underprivileged youths, will run from August until October or November.

Aedy in his speech earlier, thanked Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Hajiji Noor for his strong support of RTD programmes in the state.

The initiative, which began in February 2025 in collaboration with Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS), and Politeknik Kota Kinabalu, involved 1,200 participants in its first phase. Of these, 500 participants received their licences at Saturday’s event.

Nationwide, the programme initially offered 15,000 slots, with Sabah allocated 1,200.

Aedy reminded new licence holders to obey traffic rules, practise safe riding and use the licence responsibly.

“The facility provided is a trust that must be respected. Those who violate the law risk having their licence revoked,” he said.

Speaking further at the press conference later, Aedy revealed that RTD had seized 53 luxury cars during the three-day Ops Luxury 2.0 in the Klang Valley.

“The operation targets luxury vehicles that violate road regulations.

The 53 seized cars were found to have no insurance or valid road tax,” he said.

He stressed that RTD would take firm action against all offenders, including luxury car owners.

“We remind all vehicle owners not to take insurance and road tax lightly. Luxury cars are not exempt from the law,” Aedy said.

The seized vehicles will only be released once their owners settle outstanding issues, he added.
