Last summer's marquee signing struggled during his first season at Old Trafford, often finding himself out of the team.
There were suggestions that Fred may be loaned out to Galatasaray this summer.
However, The Sun reports that he held face to face talks with his manager.
Fred was informed by Solskjaer that he has a big part to play in the latter's first team plans for next season.
United are not thought to be entertaining the idea of Fred transferring this summer.
