Sabah marked a major milestone in its renewable energy journey with the launch of a 7.5MW solar tracking power plant in Balung, here.
Officiated by Industrial Development and Entrepreneurship Minister Phoong Jin Zhe, the project is a collaboration between Constant Energy, Woodford Solar Energy Holding, and Gaya Belian.
Phoong hailed the plant as a symbol of Sabah’s commitment to a greener future, noting that solar will make up 20 to 25 percent of the state’s energy mix by 2026.

The plant features solar tracking technology, boosting efficiency by adjusting panels with the sun’s movement.
Phoong acknowledged financing remains a challenge for large-scale solar, but stressed that public-private collaboration is driving progress.
He reaffirmed the government’s push for policy support, innovation, and investment to position Sabah as a green energy leader in the region and beyond.
