SEVEN MEN were slapped with warning notices recently by the Kelantan Religious Affairs Department (JHEAIK) for their attire.
JHEAIK chief assistant director Mohd Fadzuli Mohd Zain said the department had issued the warning notices to the seven men who were wearing thigh-length shorts at a restaurant also selling shisha in Gertak Chaber, Tanah Merah, NST reports.
The notice was issued under Section 23 of the Kelantan Syariah Criminal Offences Enactment 2019, which criminalises exposing one’s aurat in public places.
The District Health Department (PKD) and the National Anti-Drug Agency (ADDK) were part of the raid and managed to seize six shisha pipes, according to the Tanah Merah District Council (MDTM) Facebook post.
“The joint operation involved several agencies. Apart from JHEAIK, the other agencies that took part in the operation were the Health department and the National Anti-Drug Agency.
“The raid was carried out based on public tip-offs on the activity being held in the area,“ Mohd Fadzuli said.
In the operation, PKD had issued two warning notices to the restaurant under the Licensing, Trade, Business, and Industry Bylaw (MDTM) 2009.
The restaurant was slapped with 16 compound fines amounting to RM3,400, under the Food Hygiene Regulations 2009 amounting to RM1,500 with five compounds.
Meanwhile, the 11 compound fines worth RM1,900 were under the Tobacco Revenue Control Regulations (PPKHT) 2004.
During the raid, a urine test was conducted on all the customers who were there at the restaurant.
