KUALA LUMPUR – A couple has been arrested for allegedly strangling and abusing their seven-month-old adopted daughter to death at their condominium in Bandar Sri Permaisuri, Cheras, last night.

Speaking to Scoop, Cheras police chief Aidil Bolhassan confirmed that post-mortem results from Hospital Canselor Tuanku Muhriz (HCTM) revealed that the infant had been strangled and suffered multiple injuries consistent with abuse.

“The police received a report at 9.34pm from the father, who said his adopted daughter was found unconscious at their residence. When officers arrived, the baby was already unresponsive and showed signs of bruising and cyanosis,” said Aidil.

He added that the child’s body was immediately sent to HCTM for forensic examination.

“Based on the post-mortem report and preliminary investigations, we suspected foul play. Both the adoptive parents, aged 38 and 50, were arrested to assist with the investigation,” he said.

The case is being investigated under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001 (Act 611), and police are in the process of obtaining a remand order for both suspects.

Information about the incident was first brought to Scoop’s attention by sources, who revealed that several police officers had arrived at Cengal Condominium in Bandar Sri Permaisuri late last night to investigate a report involving a child.

The sources added that a body – believed to be that of an infant – was later seen being removed from the building in a sealed body bag by the authorities. – July 31, 2025
