MANILA, Philippines—Seven airports in Samar region remain operational even after a magnitude 6.1 earthquake hit Eastern Samar, the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) said Monday.
The aviation regulator has ordered officials at Calbayog, Borongan, Catbalogan, Hilongos, Catarman, Guiuan, and Ormoc airports to assess their facilities for potential damage.
No significant damage has been reported in these locations. Borongan Airport had a power outage.
CAAP said it will continue to monitor the situation and coordinate with local government units to guarantee the safety and security of affected airports.
"CAAP assures the public that all necessary measures have been undertaken to ensure the safety of our airports and personnel. We are also coordinating closely with our airport managers for continuous monitoring, assessment, and the immediate resolution of operational concerns," CAAP Director General Raul del Rosario said.
