TAWAU: Seventy thrift clothing shop lots covering an area of 100 x 120 square metres were destroyed in an early morning fire at Kampung Titingan on Thursday.
Tawau Fire and Rescue Department chief Jemishin Ujin said firefighters managed to save 350 nearby houses and other shop lots during the incident.
The department received an emergency call at 4.44am and dispatched a team that arrived at the scene seven minutes later to carry out firefighting operations.
A total of 16 firefighters from the Tawau station, assisted by 10 Community Firefighters, nine Civil Defence Force personnel, 10 police officers, and two Sabah Electricity personnel, were deployed to the location.
The fire was brought under control at 5.23am with no casualties reported, while overhaul operations are ongoing to ensure no remaining embers re-ignite the site.
