70-year-old man arrested over alleged political flag removal in Seremban

A MAN in his 70s has been arrested after a video allegedly showing him removing political party flags in Dusun Setia, Ampangan, in Seremban, circulated on social media since two days ago.

Negeri Sembilan police chief Datuk Alzafny Ahmad said Seremban district police headquarters received a report at 2.54am regarding several political party flags believed to have been removed.

“Initial investigations found that the incident was recorded by members of the public and subsequently spread on social media. The video footage showed a man removing political party flags installed along the roadside,” he said in a statement today.

Alzafny said police, acting on information and findings from investigations, arrested a local man in his 70s at around 9.45pm yesterday in the city area to assist investigations into the incident.

“Further investigations are still ongoing, including recording statements from witnesses and obtaining analysis of the video footage. The case is being investigated under Section 427 of the Penal Code,” he said.

He advised all parties not to speculate, spread unverified information or upload content that could cause confusion and interfere with the ongoing investigation.

Meanwhile, Alzafny said police received two reports yesterday and opened two investigation papers related to election offences under Section 427 of the Penal Code for committing mischief resulting in the loss of or damage to property.

“Cumulatively, from nomination day last Saturday until yesterday, the police have received 14 reports and opened nine investigation papers related to election offences,” he said. - July 24, 2026
