KANGAR: A freelance Muslim preacher, who had allegedly made insulting remarks against another religion, was detained early today.

Perlis police chief Datuk Noor Mushar Mohamad said the 34-year-old man, who is also the chairman of a Perlis-based non-governmental organisation (NGO), was picked up at a restaurant in Arau at about 2.30am.

He said the man, who allegedly uploaded a video on his Facebook account in which insulting remarks were made against another religion, was held under Section 298A of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Commission Act 1998.

“The arrest was made following a police report lodged by an NGO at the Jalan Tun Razak Police station (in Kuala Lumpur) yesterday,“ he told Bernama when contacted. — Bernama
