At 77 years old, Malaysian triathlete Hock Yim Wong showed that age is no barrier, successfully crossing the finish line at the IRONMAN 70.3 Da Nang!

Ironman 70.3, for those with adequate preparation
Competing in the event’s oldest age-group category (75-79), Wong crossed the finish line in an impressive 8 hours, 50 minutes and 57 seconds despite having to contend with scorching temperatures on race day.
The grueling race featured a 1.9km swim, a 90km cycling segment and a 21.1km run, testing participants’ endurance across all three disciplines.

Persistence pays off
What makes Wong’s accomplishment even more inspiring is the journey behind it. After falling short of the cut-off time at the IRONMAN 70.3 Langkawi in 2022 and again in 2025, he remained undeterred. His persistence paid off in Da Nang, where he finally completed the race and crossed the finish line within the time limit.
His performance serves as an inspiring reminder that determination and resilience can overcome age-related barriers.
His achievements were later celebrated online, with many netizens congratulating on his remarkable journey. Here’s what some of them said:

Congratulations uncle Wong for achieving something so remarkable and proving that age is never a barrier, as long as you put your heart into it!
