Manchester United are demanding Douglas Costa in Juventus' offer for Romelu Lukaku.
The Daily Mail says United had originally asked their Serie A counterparts if either Costa or team-mate Paulo Dybala could be made part of the deal.
However, the Argentine forward has not been too receptive to the idea of leaving Turin, and is prepared to wait for a meeting with Maurizio Sarri to discuss his immediate future before making any decision.
United's impatience has seen them scrap any plans to lure Dybala to England, and instead now have made the Brazilian their sole focus.
However, it is understood that Costa is just as reluctant as his fellow South American to leave Serie A, especially given the effort he has put in during pre-season, following his own unique training programme.
