7yo M'sian Student Has Marks Deducted For Not Using 'Correct' Shade Of Red To Colour Answers
Teaching is supposed to be a fun and educational process for children, but sometimes teachers can make things more complicated than needed.

A mother recently took to social media to voice her dissatisfaction with a teacher who deducted her child’s marks simply because the incorrect colour shade was used.

Wrong shade of red

In a Facebook post, it showed the mother confronting the teacher for giving her child 15 marks instead of 20.

Based on the exercise sheet, students were instructed to colour non-living objects in red and living objects in yellow.

However, the teacher argued that five marks had to be deducted as the child failed to use the correct shade of red to colour the answers, adding that other students had no issues following instructions.

Back and forth

This didn’t sit well with the mother, who told the teacher that it was a Science subject aimed at teaching students to differentiate living from non-living objects, not whether they were using the correct colour shade.

The teacher then doubled down on his stance, saying that he marked the exercise sheet as such in order to teach the child to not take instructions lightly.

He also offered to remark the exercise sheet if the child’s mother insisted on it.

In response, the mother said her child took the instructions very seriously by colouring the answers in red and not in any other colour.

“As parents, we do our best to provide writing and colouring tools, and the colour my child used is still considered as red.

It’s impossible to force every parent to buy premium colour pencil sets that have 24 or 48 options just for the sake of getting the “chili red” shade that you’re looking for,” she added.

Netizens also slammed the teacher in the comments, saying that it was unfair to punish the child based on his “ridiculous” colour standards.

Some urged the mother to lodge a complaint with the authorities so that other students will not suffer a similar fate.
