Amirudin Shari launches Jom Shopping voucher programme for 8,391 non-pensioner MAF and PDRM veterans in Selangor
SHAH ALAM: A total of 8,391 veterans of the Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) and the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) who are not pensioners in Selangor received Jom Shopping vouchers in conjunction with the National Warriors’ Day 2026 celebration.
Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said the inaugural initiative aims to celebrate the services, contributions, and significant sacrifices of the community that has defended the sovereignty and security of the homeland.
“Today, the state government has introduced a new initiative to celebrate the services and sacrifices of our warriors through the distribution of vouchers. This is in line with the principle of ‘no one will be left behind’ to ensure that no one is left behind in this state.
“I hope this contribution can be utilised even thoough its value may not be able to repay all their services. It carries the meaning that the state government always remembers the sacrifices of the nation’s warriors,” he said after launching the programme here today.
Amirudin said the distribution of the vouchers would be carried out in stages according to the state assembly constituencies to ensure completion, expected by the end of July or early August.
“If this programme is well-received, the state government intends to expand this initiative next year to include more than 22,700 pensioned veterans because the pension rates for some of them are not very high,” he said.
He added that the state government appreciates the active role of security personnel not only in defending the country but also in facing local crisis situations such as flood disaster relief and community safety issues. The commitment is to always be responsive to the welfare of the people, especially in facing the challenges of the current cost of living.
“Efforts like this are important to ensure that military and police veterans continue to be celebrated and supported inclusively, considering that some of them retire early due to certain factors.
“The state government will always seek opportunities and ways to improve the coverage of this assistance so that the welfare of the veterans is continuously preserved,” he added.
Earlier, the event was also attended by State Human Resources and Poverty Eradication Committee chairman V. Papparaidu and State Youth, Sports and Entrepreneurship Committee chairman Mohd Najwan Halimi, and all the veterans received vouchers worth RM200 each.
