Panda seems to have achieved the impossible by creating a super-fluffy kids’ duvet that manages to feel lightweight when you’re snuggled underneath. It’s called “cloud”, and I can see why; it’s puffy, cuddly and next-level soft, and was a certified hit with both my little testers.
The filling is made from a bamboo and nano-microfibre mix, which makes this a brilliant choice for kids, who benefit from a breathable and thermoregulating duvet, whatever the time of year. We tested out the 10.5 tog during both chilly and unseasonably mild nights, but late-night checks reassured me that my snoozy testers were sweat-free and at a comfortable temperature (most likely thanks to the materials’ moisture-wicking properties). It’s also available in 4.5 tog for younger children or summer use.
The duvet holds its shape really well, with zero clumping of filling. I did find that when faced with the wriggliest of sleepers – my six-year-olds – the duvet occasionally shifted slightly off the bed due to its bulk, but it never fell off. This wasn’t a problem with my nine-year-old, though.
As well as a premium feel, looks-wise, it’s really impressive, thanks to its bright white 300-thread-count bamboo outer, complete with fancy black piping and panda motif.
Bonus points were awarded because the duvet can be machine-washed at 40C but it’s not suitable for tumble drying, so make sure you pick a sunny day to dry outside. That small quibble aside, Panda’s cloud bamboo duvet is excellent quality, made to last and will keep your kids cosy whatever the season.

For less than £20, Silentnight’s healthy growth calming duvet has to be the best budget kids’ duvet I tested.
Silentnight claims that it’s 40 per cent heavier than its standard duvets, which means it’s designed to help aid a restful night’s sleep for children. Weighted duvets are good for encouraging kids to wind down more easily at bedtime, as well as having a positive impact on sleep. While it doesn’t offer the same feeling as a weighted blanket, it does provide a gentle weightiness that my testers loved.
It didn’t help my six-year-old fall asleep straight away, but she enjoyed nights of deep sleep curled up under this duvet, and I regularly had to wake her in the morning, so that’s a good sign. My nine-year-old said it felt really cosy and relaxing, too.
The synthetic filling feels squishy and comfortable, without overheating my sleeping testers – although as it only comes in a 10.5 tog, I’m not sure how suitable it would be for warmer summer nights. To top it off, it’s approved by the British Allergy Foundation, making it a good choice for children with allergies or those who suffer from asthma.

Wool duvets are great for children, providing the essential warmth and cosiness without the bulk of a down or hollowfibre filling. Soak & Sleep’s wool duvet is easily the best kids’ wool duvet I tested. While it has a flat profile, don’t be deceived – it kept my little tester incredibly snug on some very chilly October nights.
There’s a reassuring weightiness to it, although I’d say it feels marginally lighter than the Woolroom duvet we also tested. It’s filled with wool, making it perfect for children with allergies, thanks to its naturally hypoallergenic properties.
Both my six- and nine-year-old testers loved the comfort this wool duvet delivered. As a parent, I rated the wool filling’s temperature-regulating powers, which kept them both warm, but not hot. I also appreciated the thoughtful design touches, such as the tie fastenings in the corner so you can pair with other duvets in the range for extra warmth, as well as the bound hem edge, which felt excellent quality. The criss-cross quilted stitching also means the wool is evenly distributed, even when faced with wriggly sleepers.
While you can machine wash and thoroughly tumble dry, the wool has the potential to clump. To prolong the longevity and quality, I’d recommend opting for professional washing and drying if you can.

Designed specifically for children, Naturalmat’s nursery goose down duvet feels exceptionally lightweight while providing unbeatable levels of cosiness – and it’s easily the best down duvet for kids we tested. (This was my nine-year-old’s first experience of a down and feather duvet, and it’s fair to say he’s a convert.)
My tester loved how the fluffy duvet fitted around his body, and the 9 tog provided the perfect level of warmth for autumn nights. The mix of goose feather and down helps create a cloud-like feel while trapping in heat to keep kids warm at night. The cotton casing is also impressive, making sure no feathers poked out and irritated my testers.
There’s no getting around the high price tag, though. This is an investment duvet, but the quality is undeniable and the cost per good night’s sleep genuinely justifies the expense – in fact, this came very close to being my best buy, but the Panda just pipped it due to price. Handmade in Devon, the Naturalmat duvet is easy to care for, being suitable for both machine washing and tumble drying, and I love that it comes in a reusable cotton drawstring bag, arriving completely plastic-free. And only materials certified by the European Down and Feather Association (EDFA) are used for the filling, meaning everything is responsibly sourced, without any harm to living animals.

The White Company’s hypoallergenic soft and light breathable duvet is the best down alternative duvet. Designed to have a down-like feel but without the feathers, it captures that luxurious, enveloping feeling of a hotel bed. It’s full and lofty while still feeling lightweight (although the bulk and weight may be a bit too much for very young children, so I’d recommend it for children ages six and older). Everything about it feels premium – including the 200-thread-count cotton percale casing and the button attachments for adding extra layers.
The 10.5 tog provided the cosiest (yet breathable and non-sweaty) of cocoons for bedtime – so much so, my nine-year-old took some serious coaxing to get up in the morning when snuggled under this duvet. If you wanted to swap for a lighter tog during summer, the large fabric drawstring bag is ideal for easy storage.
The duvet can be machine-washed and tumble-dried, but The White Company recommends professional laundering to retain quality. Overall, this is a good value, luxury duvet perfect for older kids who like their duvets to be as cloud-like as possible.

Switching between summer and winter duvets can be a bit of a faff, but Simba’s hybrid three-in-one duvet has made it as quick and easy as possible. The zip-up storage bag contains a 3.5 tog duvet for summer and a 7 tog duvet for spring and autumn. In winter, attach the two with corner poppers for a multi-layered 10.5 tog duvet.
While the duvets aren’t as soft to touch as some of the others, it’s not really an issue when tucked inside a duvet cover, and my nine-year-old wasn’t bothered in the slightest. He tested the 7.5 tog on its own, as well as both duvets together, and rated them both for comfort and cosiness. He also had no problems popping and unpopping the duvets together himself.
On one side of each duvet, Simba has included what it calls ‘stratos tech’, which is designed to absorb excess body heat. It certainly kept my prone-to-overheating tester at a comfortable temperature, particularly when they kept this side of the duvet next to their body at night. I can imagine this being an amazing feature for helping children sleep better in summer.
At £249 for the single size, it’s no budget buy, but when you split the cost over three duvets, which is essentially what you’re getting here, it justifies the spend.

If you’re looking to spend less than the Naturalmat nursery goose down duvet, but still want the feathers, I found Homescapes’s goose feather and down duvet to be the best budget down and feather duvet for kids.
Offering a premium feel at a budget price, it uses ethically sourced filling that’s Responsible Down Standard certified – an absolute non-negotiable for us. It’s as light and fluffy as you’d hope. So much so, my nine-year-old refers to it as “the cloud”. Homescapes claims it has natural dust mite protection, but I’ve not tested it long enough to say whether this is truly effective.
It's box-stitched to keep the filling evenly distributed, and my tester didn’t experience any cold spots when tucked up in bed, although I did find it needed a good shake each morning to keep it nice and plump.
At 10.5 tog, it’s perfect for autumn and winter use.

Woolroom’s deluxe washable wool duvet is a fantastic all-rounder. Handmade using traceable British wool, it’s the only natural duvet to hold the Allergy UK seal of approval, making it the best hypoallergenic duvet. Crucially, it also scored highly with both of my testers for cosiness.
Similar to the Soak & Sleep duvet, it has a flat profile compared with some of the down and synthetic designs, yet still provides the right amount of snuggliness to encourage a good night’s sleep.
We tried the medium duvet (equivalent to a 7 tog to 10 tog rating), and it’s ideal for year-round use. The brand claims this wool duvet offers “superior moisture management – 67 per cent better than down/feather and 48 per cent better than polyester”. While I can’t put the specifics to the test, I can confirm both testers slept soundly, without overheating.
I really rate that all the wool fibres are traceable back to specific UK flocks. It can be machine-washed on a wool cycle using wool detergent, but don’t attempt to tumble dry.
